Episode 5 was an episode I was so excited to watch, mainly because one of the contestants is a Twitter friend :)

Pop Craft Challenge: Winter Threads Spun into Spectacular Wreaths
Craft Wars began with holiday carolers this episode.
The first challenge was to take Christmas Winter Wear -- holiday sweaters, santa hats, fleece scarves, mittens -- and turn them into a Wreath.
This seemed like a fairly straightforward task, so I began to ask myself... how would each crafter make the Wreath unforgettable for the judges?
Cheryl took an opportunity to use textures to her benefit. She made a wreath that was made of newspaper, tulle and the scarves. She cracked me up because she told her helper that they only have 1 hour "so, [let's] haul ass."
Ivan seemed to take an interesting approach and began constructing cones that he was to attach to an embroidery hoop. However, the time got the best of him and he ended up making a hodge podge wreath with a furry (santa hat trimmed) edge, scrabble tile and buttons. There was not symmetry and this proves fatal.
Meanwhile, Margot was going to town with a glue gun. Her idea was to wrap a styrofoam wreath with sweater arms and then decorate with rosette, bling and a bow from a scarf. She definitely had a vision. When Tori came by to see her progress their discussion related to the glue gun, Tori warned that the judges hate to see glue strings!!! Margot said she would try to rid the glue boogers from the design.
The judges decided that of the 3, Ivan's design was just too rushed - he had a mess of color and texture and although he slapped it together in about 5-10 minutes, the design was not good. Margot was critiqued - she should have been careful about the glue boogers and instead opted to use floral pins or wires to adhere the rosettes. Cheryl was told her design needed more color and her flowers looked like socks with bling (ouch!)
Master Craft Challenge: Oh Craft-mas Tree!
The next challenge was a big one --- create a craft-mazing Christmas Tree with shipping materials!
Margot decided to create a whimsical, cartoonish tree made of styrofoam, with paper tissue flowers and glitter-fied ornaments, while Cheryl opted to created a wooden based tree with chalkboard paint to create a "graffitti" tree along with a tree skirt made of Christmas cards and a topper made of clear mini-light bulbs.
Margot encountered a problem as her tree began to be painted. The sytrofoam was melting with the coats of spray paint!!! Can you say craft nightmare!!! Well, her team powered on and just made it work (homage to Tim Gunn there).
The most ironic part of the challenge was this -- the basic design of each tree was the same! The trees had 4 sides and circle openings for ornaments to be hung. The judges were a bit amazed at this.
In the end, the judge said Margot's design needed more glitter on the edges of her trees, that her color scheme looked more suitable for Easter and that her flowers (which they continually had been impressed with during the construction phase) looked like they belonged on a float. Cheryl also had areas for improvement, her tree topper was great but it would likely break and not last more than one Christmas, further Judge Erika found her tree skirt to look sloppy. So, yet again, it was a tough crowd of judges!!!
The winner the judges finally selected was CHERYL, her chalkboard paint was good and so was her topper put her to the top.
